Year in and year out, the DS7 Crossback will already have 4 years on the clock, in 2021. It will be time for him to think about responding to the nose.
After taking over the Peugeot 3008 and 5008, the PSA group’s “compact SUV facelift” will soon set its sights on the Opel Grandland X (during 2021) and then on the Citroën C5 Aircross (2022). In the meantime, the poshest of this family resting on a common platform will also be entitled to a new nose. Auto-Moto imagined, through an illustration, what might be the scope of modifications to the DS7 Crossback, mid-career.
Year in and year out, the large SUV for DS automobiles bears witness to a successful commercial career in its national market. He, who was predicted to have a grim horizon, when it was launched in 2017, now holds the high priority to his badged competitors Audi, BMW, and Mercedes, in terms of sales figures. In 2019, it even allowed itself to sell more than its small DS3 Crossback (8795 ex.), Yet more recent and more affordable, with 14,099 units sold in France. A gap that tends to narrow in 2020, although the DS7 has maintained a small head start overall, since early 2020. And a lack of sales momentum which DS will try to overcome by rejuvenating its foal, in 2021. But in the international, where the DS7 Crossback struggles to win, it will be very difficult to restart the machine.
By small touches
The restyling that the DS7 Crossback will undergo, four years after its launch, should mainly affect its bow. A shock of simplification, advocated by the DS design teams, should operate at the level of the grille. The latter could reduce the surface area attributed to the chrome, while the grid could descend slightly lower in the shield. The vertical light signatures, housed at each end of this facies, should reverse the meaning of their “commas”, to attach to the base of the main optics, like the recent DS9, and as the future DS4 and DS4 will testify. Crossback, in 2021.
The rounded reliefs currently displayed on the shield will surely give way to simpler lines, in the spirit of the DS Aero Sports Lounge concept car, seen last spring. But for the sake of economy, the DS7 Crossback should retain its hood and fenders, as well as most of its stern components. A rearview which should however benefit from an original taillight design. This restyling should be completed by the introduction of redesigned rims.
Even more luxurious
Onboard, the designers of DS should essentially review the atmospheres, in particular relating to colors and materials. The design of the cockpit should not be upset but could accommodate new digital panels, better in resolution and responsiveness. In the rear seats, we can bet that the bench will be equipped with both heated and ventilated seats, as recently adopted by the large DS9 sedan.
360 hp on the program?
Under the hood, the DS7 Crossback should not upset its engine offering. However, it could be enriched with a very high-performance variant, embodied by the plug-in hybrid unit of 360 hp that boils in the Peugeot 508 PSE, but also in the DS9. To run 100% electric, we will have to wait for the second generation, which is expected by 2024. By then, thermal units will probably have adopted 48V micro-hybridization.
DS7 Crossback price
The new restyled DS7 Crossback is expected in 2021. It could honor the first edition of the Munich Motor Show, which will replace the Frankfurt Motor Show, next fall. On the occasion of its launch, the SUV will probably revise its prices upwards, beyond the 35,300 € currently claimed at the entry-level.
