With the new Spring Electric, Dacia wants to revolutionize electric mobility by offering a practical vehicle with a price that is more than content. It will hit the market in the spring of 2021.
Practicality at a very affordable price, Dacia once again exploits the philosophy that has made it unmistakable in recent years on the global automotive scene. The Logan, Sandero, and Duster models are more than interesting models, with a multitude of practical solutions and a demolition price among their competitors.
Now, the Romanian firm of the Renault Group wants to set a precedent in the new electric mobility with the official presentation of the Spring Electric, one of the main novelties of the Alliance in the special event E Ways, where the company has advanced part of its strategy and new roadbook on efficient and sustainable technologies for the automobile.
The new Dacia Spring Electric will land on the markets from spring 2021. The Romanian firm assures that it will be the “cheapest electric urban car on the market. At first, its range will consist of a version for the general public, plus another variant adapted to carsharing or shared electric mobility and a version focused on professional use called Cargo, mainly aimed at transport companies or the self-employed.
Under the guise of a small vehicle shaped like an SUV, one of the first aspects that catch the attention of the Dacia Spring Electric is its compact size, with just 3.73 m in length, 1.62 m in width, 1,516 m in height, and a wheelbase of 2.42 m. The height of the body from the ground (without load) is 150 mm.
To drive itself, the Dacia Spring Electric will use an electric motor with 33 kW (about 44 hp) of power, with a torque of 125 Nm. The electrical energy will be stored in a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 26.8 kWh, which will provide it with around 225 km of autonomy, according to the WLTP approval cycle (if eminently urban journeys are made, the autonomy in the WLTP City homologation cycle can increase up to 295 km). The maximum speed announced by Dacia is 125 km / h, a figure that is more than enough for the vehicle to circulate with total solvency and safety on external routes to large cities.
The Dacia Spring Electric supports various types of charging. As standard, it offers its cable, which can be connected to the conventional or household 220V electrical outlet, or through a Wallbox (with an optional cable) or through a DC type terminal (optional). The charging times announced by Dacia are as follows:
- Less than an hour for an 80% load on a 30 kW DC terminal
- Less than 5 hours for a 100% load on a 7.4 kW Wallbox
- Less than 8:30 a.m. for a 100% load on a 3.7 kW Wallbox
- Less than 14 hours for a 100% charge on a 2.3 kW household outlet
Dacia Spring Interior
According to Dacia, the interior space of the Spring Electric will be enough to comfortably accommodate up to four adult passengers. The occupants of the front seats have 23.1 liters of storage capacity distributed in the glove compartment, in the buttresses of the doors, and the storage compartment of the center console. On the other hand, the backrests of the front seats are provided with specific pockets where the passengers in the rear seats can deposit their personal belongings.
As for cargo capacity in the trunk, a figure of 300 liters is announced, a volume that can be increased to around 600 liters if the rear seats are folded.
One of the relevant elements inside is located on the rotary knob with three positions to indicate the driving mode. These positions are as follows: D (forward or forward), N (neutral/neutral), and R (reverse).
Standard equipment for the new Spring Electric will include fully electric variable power steering, remote central locking, and four power windows. So that the driver does not take their eyes off the road and the steering wheel with their hands, there is a 3.5-inch digital display between the gauges, while the voice recognition system from Google or Apple can be activated by simply pressing a control On the steering wheel. Manual air conditioning, multimedia system, electric mirror adjustment, and real spare wheel are optional.
Its parking assistance system, available as an option, offers visual and acoustic aids thanks to three ultrasonic radars located in the rear bumper and a reversing camera, the image of which is transmitted to the screen of the multimedia system with dynamic guidelines.
Available as an option, the Media Nav multimedia equipment includes a 7-inch touch screen, navigation, DAB radio, compatibility with Apple Carplay and Android Auto connectivity technologies, Bluetooth, and a USB socket. Voice recognition (via smartphone) can be activated by a control located on the steering wheel.
The safety systems and driving aids as standard are speed limiter, ABS, ESP, electronic brake force distribution, 6 airbags, emergency call (SOS button), automatic lighting of the lights, and system of automatic emergency braking (active from 7 to 170 km / h).
The MY Dacia app on the new Spring Electric
From a smartphone, the free MY Dacia application allows you to know in real-time the battery level, the remaining autonomy in kilometers, start the pre-conditioning of the passenger compartment (air conditioning), and locate the car in real-time. When the vehicle is charging, the application allows you to know the progress of the charge and to start or stop it.
The new Dacia Spring Electric will offer a warranty of 3 years (or 100,000 km, whichever comes first), while its battery will have a warranty of 8 years (or 120,000 km).
