Skoda Fabia 2021: Is it better than its competitors?

In less than a year Skoda will finally launch the fourth generation of the Fabia, one of its most popular models on the market. We tell you everything we know about the new utility.

Skoda strikes back. Following the launch of the new Kamiq, Superb, Octavia, and, above all, the new Enyaq electric SUV, the Czech brand is finally turning its attention to one of the most popular and successful segments of the last decade: the utilitarian. Faced with increasingly advanced competition, and already championed by the new Peugeot 2008, Renault Clio, Opel Corsa, or Dacia Sandero, now is the launch turn for the Skoda Fabia.

Launched its third generation in 2014, not even a small update in 2018 has managed to match the Skoda Fabia against its new rivals. Therefore, as it is already one of the oldest models on the market, the Czech utility will finally present a completely new fourth-generation in 2021, in less than a year. This has already been officially confirmed by the new CEO of the company, Thomas Schäfer.

“I am looking forward to the market launch of our new Fabia next year. It will be a great car and my expectations are high ”, assured the company’s top leader. In the beginning, also, the bet seems safe. Despite having been unmarked for years, the new Skoda Fabia will finally use the MQB A0 platform of the Volkswagen Group, from which the new and brand-new Seat Ibiza, Volkswagen Polo, and Audi A1 come out.

The new base will undoubtedly allow the new 2021 Skoda Fabia to take a big step forward in technology. But it will also manage to further improve one of its great qualities: space. Thus, its wheelbase will grow by about 9 centimeters, to go from the current 2.47 meters to the 2.56 meters that it already looks, for example, the Seat Ibiza or the VW Polo.

With these new dimensions, the Skoda Fabia will already exceed 4 meters in length, like almost all its rivals today, promising a boot that, for the first time, will exceed 350 liters of cargo capacity. Obviously, to this space, it will add, like all Skoda models, a multitude of intelligent solutions, grouped under its Simply Clever philosophy.

The new Skoda Fabia 2021 will not only be more spacious and capable, but it will also be a much more attractive model, as you can see in our first illustration of the new utility vehicle, signed as always by our specialist Schulte. More sporty and with much more modern lines, there is no doubt that the new model will already enter very well through the eyes.

With a lighter body also, the new utility will present an interior with a much more sophisticated atmosphere, welcoming the new information and entertainment systems of the VW group, with touch screens and, perhaps, also for the first time already with digital instrumentation. More connectivity and new driver assistance systems, including emergency braking systems with pedestrian detection, will also be part of its standard equipment.

Skoda Fabia 2021: goodbye to diesel? And the Combi?

One of the big questions that still arise about the new Skoda Fabia has to do with its mechanical section. Will the Czech utility also abandon diesel engines, as Seat has already confirmed for its small cars? Or will you continue betting on the 1.6 TDI in any of its variants of 80, 95, and 115 hp? We don’t know, but we could almost gamble and go for the former.

We will know in a few months, but in the meantime what is certain is that the new fourth-generation Skoda Fabia will undoubtedly bet on gasoline, offering in its range the 1.0 EcoTSI block in versions of 95 and 115 hp of power. It also remains to be seen if the Czech utility would bet on the new 1.5 TSI of 150 CV and a 1.0 TGI gas version, as, the Seat Ibiza does today.

Another possible novelty in the range would be the elimination, not yet confirmed, of the Skoda Fabia Combi variant. Just 20 years after its arrival on the market, this type of body has lost a lot of weight in these small market segments, giving way to new SUV variants. And Skoda, in this sense, already has the new Kamiq.
