The sixth generation of the Subaru Outback 2021 is now available in our country, featuring a 2.4-liter Turbo engine and 255 horsepower. It comes in a single Limited version, with a very complete standard equipment.
The Japanese manufacturer Subaru presented in Colombia the new Outback 2021, a family crossover derived from the Legacy range of midsize cars and that has already accumulated more than 25 years in the market. In this new generation, it incorporates Turbo mechanics and various novelties in terms of technology and comfort on board.
It was at the New York Auto Show in April 2019 that this model debuted worldwide. However, its production began three months later at the firm’s plant located in Lafayette, Indiana, United States.
Now, the Subaru Outback is built on the new Subaru Global Platform (SGP) modular platform, increasing stiffness by 70% to achieve 100% torsional stiffness in the front and rear suspension. For its part, the chassis can absorb 40% more of the energy generated by a collision.
The new 2021 Subaru Outback features a prominent hexagonal grille with chrome accents at the front, more ragged optics (called ‘eagle eye’) with LED technology, and a bonnet with strong lines. Also, the bumper wears a huge black plastic mask that includes air intakes, explorer lights, and the central ‘ski plate’.
Smoothed shapes and a towering 9- inch ground clearance, complemented by underbody bumpers, can be seen on the sides of this car. Fit 18-inch blacked-out alloy wheels.
Outstanding at the rear is wide headlights with sharp shapes and a huge spoiler flanking the hatchback window. There is also a loose plastic mask on the bumper, with a metal protector on the bottom.
Subaru Outback 2021 Interior
Its cabin looks more refined than the previous model, adding a healthy dose of soft-touch materials along with piano black and brushed aluminum accents. For our market, the seats are arranged in black leather upholstery.
The forward windshield increased the feeling of spaciousness, while the transmission tunnel was raised and the previous generation three-spoke steering wheel was retained. The traditional analog gauges on the dash also remain, separated by a color cluster that presents vital vehicle information.
On the other hand, the center console has an 11.6-inch vertical touch screen, with Starlink interface, voice recognition, and compatibility with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. In addition to controlling the multimedia system, the two-zone climate control functions operate there.
Under the hood of the new Subaru Outback is a new horizontally opposed four-cylinder Turbo Boxer engine (H4), with direct injection, 2.4 liters, and 16 valves. It reaches a maximum power of 260 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and torque of 375 Nm between 2,400 and 4,800 rpm.
This engine is coupled to a Lineartronic CVT automatic transmission that simulates eight speeds, with a four-wheel-drive system (Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive) that distributes the torque between both axles in a 60:40 ratio. Traction is optimized with the X-MODE system when driving on slippery surfaces, working in conjunction with the stability (VDC) and descent (HDC) controls.
It has a McPherson type suspension at the front and double wishbones at the rear with subframe, coil springs, and a new hollow stabilizer bar. Meanwhile, the steering is rack and pinion with electric assistance (EPAS).
The braking system consists of ventilated discs on all four wheels, with 12.4 inches on the front wheels and 11.8 inches on the rear. They are accompanied by the anti-lock system (ABS) and electronic brake distribution (EBD).
