GMC Hummer EV: 1014 hp convertible 4×4 monster

The wait has been worth it. The new GMC Hummer EV pick-up 2022 is now official and its specifications are as surprising as its new design. This futuristic electric behemoth will be available at the end of next year and in the future, it will have a range consisting of 4 versions with a roof of 1,014 hp and 563 kilometers of autonomy.

General Motors has just unveiled the new GMC Hummer EV pick-up, the model charged with resurrecting the Hummer banner with a completely new and highly advanced lineup of huge electric SUVs. Following in the wake of the old Hummer versions, but with a much more technological, efficient, and consistent approach to the growing demand for zero-emission products.

At the moment and as we expected, the company has only presented the first body variant of the new range of electric SUVs from the GMC label. These will occupy one of the highest echelons of the extensive range of electrics that the American corporation is developing at the moment and that includes multiple models for all the group’s brands so that shortly we will find vehicles powered by batteries of GM in multiple segments.

Although the model is just as we expected, the truth is that it’s attractive aesthetic never ceases to amaze us. Well, despite being evident that it has the same DNA as its combustion predecessors, the new GMC Hummer EV has an evolved and more stylized design, which not only shows its off-road vocation but also has a highly technological image…

Although the company has not yet revealed all its dimensions, it has transcended its length. The new GMC Hummer EV in its pick-up variant measures 5,506 mm long, which would place us between the current GMC Yukon and GMC Yukon XL. By way of comparison, the new model is considerably longer than the old Hummer H2, the largest of the civilian Hummers made by General Motors and which had an overall length of 5,169 mm.

Other dimensions that have transcended are its wading capacity, 619 mm, and thanks to its high ground clearance it can overcome obstacles of up to 457 mm. As standard, it has 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler All Territory MT tires, which can optionally be 37 inches and have a Beadlock locking system.

Cabin

Inside we find lines inspired by the old Hummer, with a profusion of straight lines and horizontal elements, with practically no curves on any surface. We continue to find a huge central tunnel and a huge vertical dashboard. In addition to the 12.3-inch digital dashboard, we find a huge 13.4-inch floating-type center screen. All the official images that show the interior of the model belong to the same unit, endowed with an attractive combination of white and black leather in conjunction with various bronze-colored elements.

The cabin has several removable and transparent roof panels, a system called Infinity Roof, with longitudinal beams that can also be removed and a rear window that can be lowered electrically to turn the new Hummer into a huge convertible SUV.

The new GMC Hummer EV range is going to be the spearhead of the electric offering of this General Motors seal, so its equipment can become very rich, with elements such as the Ultravision system that has 18 exterior cameras and It has several functions to help the driver during 4×4 routes, including cameras under the vehicle. We can also highlight the presence of the Super Cruise driving assistance system in its latest generation, one of the few in its class that allows hands-free circulation.

No less relevant is the Crab Mode, an exclusive system of the new Hummer that turns all 4 wheels in the same direction so that the vehicle can circulate sideways. Although at the moment only one version has been presented, the truth is that the company has revealed the most important specifications of the rest of the options that will make up the GMC Hummer EV range. Starting with the new Hummer EV Edition 1, which has a battery pack that allows a range of up to 563 kilometers according to the EPA cycle and the already confirmed triple electric motor scheme that delivers 1,014 CV (1,000 hp) and the wild figure 15,592 Nm of maximum torque. Although the company has not specified it, it is evident that these figures do not refer to the maximum torque measured at the output of the mechanics, but at the wheels, which considerably multiplies the torque value that manufacturers are used to give.

This is a trend that is beginning to spread among the different manufacturers of electric vehicles since Tesla announced the torque to the wheels of the new Tesla Roadster 2 without specifying that it was not the usual torque value. After being consulted by the media, those of Tesla decided to modify this value on their US website, but not on the rest of the regional websites. Where the supposed torque figure of the new electric sports car is still 10,000 Nm. According to the American press, the actual torque figure for the new 3-engined Hummer EV should be around 1,000 to 1,100 Nm.

This first version will begin to be manufactured in the autumn of next year and can already be reserved on the GMC website for only $ 100. The following year, in autumn 2022, the new Hummer EV 3X will arrive, a version that maintains the same 3-engine scheme but reduces power to 811 hp (800 hp) and the estimated range to +483 km. A few months later, in spring 2023, the first dual-engine version, the Hummer EV 2X, is expected to be launched, boasting a combined total power of 634 hp (625 hp) and sharing the same +483 km of range. with the Hummer EV 3X.

Finally, during the spring of 2024 the launch of the base version of the range, the future Hummer EV 2, is expected, which maintains the twin-engine and all-wheel-drive scheme of the previous version with 634 hp but reducing its autonomy to +402 km. The battery capacity figures have not been disclosed, but they do belong to GM’s Ultrium family, as does the platform, as this is the first model to debut the BT1 architecture.

These figures are provisional, hence the company has limited itself to confirm that it will be above those values. As for prices, we can expect that in the next 4 years they will be modified in some way since we would be surprised if General Motors maintained the base price of $ 79,995 between now and 2024.
