Porsche 911 GT3 2021: Viene con 500 HP y cambio manual

Porsche seems capable of selling anything. No matter what comes out of the German firm, its customers buy it, be it an electric car or an SUV. However, there is an irreducible clientele eager for the best and sportiest Porsche 911. And they are not few. For them, Porsche has been developing the Porsche 911 GT3 for 20 years, listening to the wishes of its most loyal customers. And the new Porsche 911 GT3 2021 is coming down.

On an aesthetic level, despite some bumpers that show a certain camouflage on this prototype, the final car will hardly vary concerning these images. Anyway, no one expects a revolutionary design, but one dictated by aerodynamics rather than aesthetics. The rear wing, yes, it would be final, and it is hanging from its pillars at the top. It looks unusual and is said to provide an aerodynamic advantage over a conventional spoiler.

Onboard, the differences will focus on the instrument cluster. It will continue to be digital, as in the rest of 911, but it will have a GT mode that will put all the most relevant information to the left and right of the central rev counter; an analog tach, by the way.

On a mechanical level, Andreas Preuninger – head of development for all GT3s and GT4s since the 996 GT3 in 2003 – and his team are opting for a 4.0-liter naturally aspirated 6-cylinder boxer. With a power greater than 500 hp, it is capable of climbing up to 9,000 laps.

Porsche 911 GT3 Multilink suspensions in the front

The customer will be able to choose between two gearboxes to accompany this piece of jewelry: a 6-speed manual gearbox or a seven-speed PDK double-clutch. In the case of opting for the PDK, it will have a normal gear knob and not the mini lever that we see in the current 911. Thus, in addition to the cams, it can be changed manually with the knob. And in the “correct” sense, that is, pulling towards you to go up a gear and pushing forward to go down a gear.

The chassis, for its part, presents significant changes concerning the rest of the 911 range. The suspension of the front axle will be multilink inspired by what Porsche does in competition. Another notable novelty, this GT3 will not feature electronically controlled active engine mounts.

In the end, the Preuninger team considered them unnecessary, they did not add a noticeable bonus and did not justify the excess weight they made the car. And it is that in this GT3, as in all its predecessors, Porsche has sought to contain the maximum weight.

And this GT3 is just the beginning because in all probability we will also see a GT3 Touring without a spoiler, available both with manual gearbox and PDK, and later, the Holy Grail of the saga, the 911 GT3 RS.
