Hennessey Venom F5 2021: Should work 500 km/h

Story Highlights
  • A lot has changed about the Venom F5 since it was first unveiled at SEMA 2017. The absurdly fast hypercar will only be available 24 times and cost over two million euros.

The Hennessey Venom F5 2021 has already had a few premieres. For the first time, the Texan tuner showed pictures of its self-developed hypercar in the summer of 2014. In autumn 2017, he pulled the cloth from a further developed Venom F5 at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas. Six months later, the European debut followed at the Geneva Motor Show in 2018. After that, Hennessey only published news on the Internet about the progress made in the US car. But now the Americans have finally officially unveiled the production car.

Further developed lightweight chassis

The model differs fundamentally from the previously shown Venom F5 2021, which Hennessey now calls a “concept study”. The Americans have further developed their prestige object, especially in terms of aerodynamics. The hypercar has a carbon front splitter, smooth underbody, and a powerful diffuser, which is why the rear wing is rather delicate. However, there should be a track pack for the Venom F5 2021, which includes larger wings at the front and rear. Hennessey gives the drag coefficient for the standard F5 as 0.39.

The carbon fiber chassis has also been extensively revised. Although it only weighs 86 kilograms, it is said to be particularly resistant to torsion. To ensure this, Hennessey arranged the carbon fibers in the center of the chassis in a herringbone pattern. The 4.67 meters long, 1.97 meters wide, and 1.13-meter high body (wheelbase: 2.80 meters) is also made of carbon fiber and is in “Speed Devil” in this debut, which is a customer vehicle Blue “painted. There is a special feature in the sill area: This is integrated into the outside of the scissor doors, which solves a problem with many other super sports cars: the occupants do not have to laboriously get in and out via an extremely wide sill.

Hennessey adapted the engine to the new chassis; however, its key data remain the same. The 280 kilograms twin-turbo V8, which goes by the nickname “Fury”, has a displacement of 6.6 liters and delivers impressive technical data: 1,842 hp and a maximum of 1,617 Newton meters at 5,500 rpm, which equates to a power-to-weight ratio of 0. 74 kg / PS results. To achieve these values and to set the speed limit high (the red area starts at 8,500 rpm), the engine has all kinds of high-tech and lightweight components, some of which are made of titanium and come from the 3D printer. The turbochargers are specimens with double ball bearings and 3D-printed titanium housings. Hennessey has improved intercooling compared to previous versions.

For the dry 1,360 kilograms Venom F5 2021, Hennessey is aiming for a Vmax target of 311 mph (converted 500 km / h). The name is derived from this speed: F5 stands for the highest tornado category, which can reach wind speeds of up to 512 km / h. The highest gear is so long that theoretically even 534 km / h would be possible. For comparison: the predecessor Venom GT, weighing 1,244 kilos, reached a top speed of 435.31 km / h on the Kennedy Space Center site. The acceleration values of the Venom F5: zero to 100 km / h in 2.6 seconds, zero to 200 km / h in 4.7 seconds, zero to 300 km / h in 8.4 and zero to 400 km / h in 15, 5 seconds.

Full power is only available in F5 mode

But not only the new chassis and the adapted engine should guarantee success. The chassis works with independent wheel suspension, double wishbones, and a variety of adjustable Penske thread dampers on all wheels. The forged rims of 9.5×19 inches at the front and 12×20 inches at the rear are coated with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires in the dimensions 265/35 ZR19 at the front and 345/30 ZR20 at the rear. Behind the wheels is a braking system that works with 390-millimeter carbon-ceramic discs from Brembo and six- and four-piston calipers from AP Racing.

The four tailpipes of the stainless steel exhaust flow centrally and quite high up between the rear lights. The power flow to the rear wheels is regulated by a semi-automatic seven-speed gearbox with steering wheel paddles. In addition to traction control including ESP, launch control is also installed. Five settings are stored in the driving modes: Sport, Track, Drag, Wet, and F5 – only in the latter is the full power unleashed.

Carbon, leather, and Alcantara in the cockpit

The angular, open-topped valance, which with its numerous adjustment options would fit well in a Formula 1 car, is located in an “interior inspired by space travel”. This is largely made of carbon. A seven-inch driver information display is located behind the steering wheel. In addition to the “N”, “D”, and “R” buttons, the center console also houses those for window lifters, hazard warning lights, parking brakes, front lift, and door locks as well as the climate control.

A nine-inch touchscreen from Alpine sits in the center of the dashboard. This offers Apple Carplay and Android Auto connectivity, navigates the Venom crew through the country, and can be connected to smartphones via Bluetooth. The leather on the doors, on the dashboard, and the seats as well as Alcantara on the headliner and storage compartments conjure up a sense of wellbeing in the cockpit.

Hennessey Venom F5 2021 Price

In the first half of 2021, the Hennessey Venom F5 should prove its speed at the Kennedy Space Center. The F5 remains inaccessible not only because of its speed but also because it is limited to 24 copies: twelve cars each are destined for the USA and international markets. The hypercar costs $ 2.1 million net. If you add German VAT (19 percent), that translates to a gross price of 2.05 million euros.

Now that the production car has finally been officially unveiled, the impression is growing that Hennessey is shaking the 500 km / h limit with the new Venom F5. A V8 with 1,842 hp and a chassis that is as stable as it is light should help.
