The new 2021 Hyundai Tucson is here. The fourth generation of Hyundai’s successful compact SUV has entered the scene loaded with all-important new features. New design, more complete technological equipment, and a mechanical offer in which electrification gains ground. We review all the keys of a model that is called to play a leading role.
The wait is over. After a huge amount of spy photos, various leaks, and official advances by the brand, the new Hyundai Tucson 2021 has been presented in society. Undoubtedly we are facing one of the most important and expected launches of this year due to the role that plays this SUV in the Old Continent.
Hyundai’s compact SUV is a true bestseller. A benchmark within the C-SUV segment. With the entry of the fourth generation, the South Korean manufacturer hopes to deepen this path of success and consolidate its position against the most direct rivals that it will have to face once it arrives at our dealerships. Nissan Qashqai, SEAT Ateca, Ford Kuga, and Volkswagen Tiguan will be some of them.
The design of the new Hyundai Tucson 2021
Considering the volume of sales generated by this model to Hyundai, it is logical to expect it to adopt the most advanced and innovative technology developed by this company. Now, how has the Tucson changed? Just take a quick look at the images that accompany this article to discover the main novelties of both exterior and interior design.
The new generation of Tucson was already glimpsed about a year ago with the Hyundai Vision T Concept. It adopts a new design language. A philosophy that has already been seen in the Hyundai Nexo, one of the most advanced hydrogen fuel cell cars on the market. Concerning the outgoing model, the differences are notable.
Let’s put our focus on the front because that is where the most radical changes are found. The optical groups are divided in two. In the upper part we have some lights whose main function will be daytime lighting while below, we find some headlights that integrate other functions. Now, we can’t talk about the new headlights without mentioning the new grille. A large grille on which the Hyundai insignia is located and which connects directly to the upper optics and part of it is backlit.
The shapes of the bumper and hood help the vehicle transmit more force. We must not overlook the plastic fenders that protect the lower part of the body. Looking at the side view, we will be struck by the elevated waistline rising to the rear and the elaborate wheels, with designs that follow the philosophy of the rest of the model ‘imitating a jewel’. The customization options are remarkable The bodywork can be painted in up to seven different colors in the case of the gasoline versions and four colors for the hybrid and plug-in hybrid options.
And ending our tour of the exterior of the new Tucson at the rear, the first thing to highlight is the new taillights that are linked by a beam of light. A detail that enhances the feeling of the width of the vehicle. Also, both taillights have a very characteristic shape with a new light signature for this model. In the rear bumper, the fenders stand out and elements such as the bars and roof spoiler help give the new Tucson more personality.
Compared to the previous generation, the new 2021 Hyundai Tucson has grown by 20mm in length and another 20mm in width. It is also slightly taller: a 5 mm difference. It has also increased its wheelbase by 10 mm, but perhaps the most relevant data regarding its measurements is the space for the legs in the rear seats. Now, the model offers no less than 26mm more than the third-generation Hyundai Tucson.
The technological interior of the new Hyundai Tucson 2021
Leaving aside the exterior, if we venture inside the new Tucson we will be surrounded by an environment in which quality and comfort are breathed. Hyundai proves everything it is capable of with this makeover of its successful SUV. Technological equipment is really important for this segment and category. The instrument cluster is fully digital and offers a 3D-like display with really useful information for driving.
The completely redesigned center console stands out thanks to the large 10.25-inch touch screen in the higher-end versions and 8-inch in the rest, although always with support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. A multimedia platform that allows access to numerous digital services online. And we must not lose sight of the air conditioning module, since it also has a touch operation, although with capacitive buttons. The transmission tunnel has also undergone very relevant changes.
Looking at the list of driver assistance systems, the new Tucson is well served. Among other functions, it has an autonomous emergency brake with pedestrian detection, blind spot control, lane maintenance assistant, rear cross-traffic control with autonomous brake, remote parking assistance, or driver inattention detector. Other details related to technological equipment to be highlighted are the wireless charger for compatible mobile phones, the support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay even in versions with an 8-inch screen or the multiscreen (to use several ‘apps’ at the same time) with controls for you.
The range of engines of the new Hyundai Tucson 2021
And what about the mechanical section? The mechanical offer has been adapted to the new times. Times in which electrification is gaining prominence at an accelerated rate. The Tucson that we can still find in our dealerships is indeed an electrified vehicle, the truth is that it does so at a very low level, since it only offers a light hybrid system. This with the new generation is going to change.
The new Tucson 2021 will be available in a gasoline option along with a hybrid (HEV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version. Depending on the chosen engine, we will find a manual gearbox or an eight-speed automatic transmission. There are also front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive (HTRAC) options.
Later on, the characteristics of the Hyundai Tucson 2021 plug-in hybrid will be announced, which will be based on the 1.6 T-GDI engine and offering a power of 265 hp.
2021 New Hyundai Tucson Launch Date
When will it arrive at our dealerships? The commercial launch of the new Tucson will initially occur in its home market, that is, in South Korea. Once it has started its commercial journey in a said Asian country, this same month of September, it will be the turn of other regions where it is commercialized. In Europe, it will be set in not long. The order book is scheduled to open from the first half of 2021.
Production of the new Tucson will take place practically globally. It will be manufactured in different parts of the planet, such as South Korea and Europe. In the case of the Old Continent, serial production will take place in the Czech Republic. The first deliveries are expected to occur in the first half of 2021.
Considering the months of waiting ahead to see it at our dealerships, you may wonder whether or not it is a good time to buy a Hyundai Tucson. There will be very interesting offers of the outgoing model, although perhaps, for a certain audience, it will be better to wait for the new generation.
