Audi has announced more details of the Audi e-Tron GT, the most performance version of its upcoming electric saloon. It will not only be the first electric Audi RS; Thanks to its 650 hp of power, it will also become the most powerful street Audi ever made.
Just over a month ago, Audi announced a very high-performance electric car: the imposing Audi RS e-tron GT. A sporty electric saloon, closely related to the Porsche Taycan, and of which we have now learned more details. Yes, it will be the first electric Audi RS in history; And yes, it will also be the most powerful street Audi ever made.
Audi has announced new details about the RS e-tron GT, the most performance version of the upcoming Audi e-tron GT. A spectacular and impressive electric saloon whose electric heart will be very similar to that of the Porsche Taycan. The Audi RS e-tron GT will have two electric motors, one on each axis, with 600 hp of power and 850 Nm of torque. With the ‘over-boost’ function you can deliver 650 hp of maximum power for two seconds when accelerating with the ‘Launch control’.
The rear engine features a two-speed transmission, while the front axle engine is mated to a fixed-ratio transmission. This indicates that, at the hardware level, the similarities with the Taycan are more than evident. In fact, they also share the same platform, known as J1.
Although we do not know the exact figure, Audi speaks of a 0 to 100 km / h in less than 3.5 seconds. Not only do we believe the data, but it will probably be even faster. To put it in perspective, a 680 hp Taycan Turbo manages to do it in 3.2 seconds using Launch Control. The maximum speed will be limited to 250 kilometers per hour.
As for the battery of the RS e-tron GT, we have a lithium-ion accumulator with 93.4 kWh capacity (the same as a Taycan Turbo S or a Taycan 4S with the optional battery). According to the media that have been able to test the prototype (remember that it is not yet a production car), Audi speaks of about 400 km of autonomy (250 miles) with a full charge. We must bear in mind that we are facing the version with the highest performance and, therefore, the one that consumes the most. Other versions of the Audi e-tron GT will enjoy greater autonomy.
Let us remember that the 800-volt electrical system will allow fast charges to 270 kW of power in direct current, a very high figure thanks to which recharge from 0 to 80% can be achieved in just 20 minutes.
The car will have four-wheel drive, a directional rear axle, a self-locking differential on the rear axle and air suspension adjustable in 3 positions: normal, sport (reduces ground clearance by 10 mm), efficient (-22 mm, to reduce the maximum aerodynamic resistance). A fourth position raises the car 20 mm to overcome speed bumps or the entrance to the garage. You can also modify the hardness of the damping, more sporty or comfortable depending on what the driver wants.
As for the brakes, there will be three types available. The standard versions of the e-tron GT will equip conventional steel discs; Optionally, brakes with aluminum discs and ceramic coating can be ordered. The RS e-Tron GT will be equipped as standard with ceramic brakes, more resistant to fatigue, more durable and also much more expensive. Depending on the version and the chosen brakes, the size of the rims varies between 19 and 21 inches.
Logically, and although at the moment we have only been able to see units with camouflage, the visual section will be at the height of what an Audi with the RS seal would deserve. A more aggressive look, with sportier bumpers, larger wheels, and RS emblems scattered throughout the car. Inside, the sports seats look great before you even sit in them.
Audi e-Tron GT Price
Plik Audi e-Tron will go on sale in the first of 2021. Its price? It is not confirmed yet but he will likely flirt with the 100,000 euros in the standard version; And to think of around 140,000 euros for the sportiest, the Audi RS e-Tron GT seems more than reasonable.
